I’m drinking a lot of water every day—how do I know when it’s enough?
The hard truth about drinking water and hydrating your skin is that the water you ingest travels to your organs and then is dispersed to your bloodstream; it never actually reaches your skin. Therefore, it’s not only important to drink water internally, but to apply it to your skin and keep it there as well.
That being said, simply dousing your skin with water or taking an extra shower won’t even do the trick. You need to make sure the water that comes into contact with your skin actually stays there.
How do I add water to my skin?
This is the easy part. There are quite a few solutions for keeping your skin hydrated, healthy and radiant:
- Start with a product containing a hyaluronic acid immediately upon leaving the shower or bath. It will act to attract water to your skin and hold it there.
- Apply a post-shower moisturizer while your skin is still porous and open to absorbing hydrating nutrients–within two minutes of showering or bathing. It’s best to apply a hydrating moisturizer.
- Drink it up! Consume the recommended eight glasses of water each day. It’s not that hard, and it helps your body rid of toxins. It is a step in a healthy direction and can only stand to aid in your overall well being, both internally and externally.
